ZA-Z update, 24 October 2026: live in a camper or a Mobile Base, a Miner Helmet lamp, and a run of fixes
A ZA-Z's Essentials update went live at the afternoon restart of 24 October 2026. Close Steam completely and open it again before you join, so it fetches the new version. You can now claim a camper or a Mobile Base and live inside it, fit a lamp to the Miner Helmet, cut stripped car panels into sheet metal and cut your own car keys, and a run of fixes lands.
#Live in a camper or a Mobile Base
The ZA-Z Camper is a step van turned motorhome, found now and then, mostly in trailer parks, in one of four paint jobs. Claim it like a safehouse, add your crew as members, and step through the rear doors into a room you kit out yourself; whatever you leave in it stays there, wherever you drive. See the Camper.
The Mobile Base trailer's crew container opens into a room of its own the same way, with four gun ports you can man from inside. There are only five, placed by the admins. See the container room.
- One claim of each kind per player. A claim lapses after 14 real days with no visit from the owner or a member, like a safehouse.
- Giving up a claim leaves the room and everything in it for the next owner. The room is only lost if the vehicle itself is destroyed.
#Car panels into sheet metal
Doors, trunk lids and hoods you strip off a car for salvage no longer go to waste. With a blowtorch and a welding mask at Metalworking 4, cut a door or trunk lid into 1 sheet metal and a hood into 2. Nothing is cut by itself; you choose when. The Steel Bullbar and the Windscreen Armour also take steel or iron bars in place of metal pipes. See Vehicle Armour.
#The '82 Porsche 911 doors
The 911's doors now open, close and lock with the Chevalier Cossette's heavier, better door sound. See '82 Porsche 911.
#Underglow
The GT-R, the '82 Porsche 911 and the Chevalier Cossette take an Underglow Kit: fit it in the mechanics screen and pick the colour and mode from the vehicle menu (V). It is a soft glow just around the car, in eight colours, steady, pulsing or cycling. Kits will be sold at the courthouse store. See underglow.
#Cut your own car key
Lost the key to your car? Park it inside your safehouse, carry a blank key and a file, and cut a new one: it takes Electrical 3 and Mechanics 4. A screwdriver pulls a hotwire back out of the dash, so the car needs a key again. See Car keys.
#Miner Helmet lamp
A light bulb and a screwdriver turn the Miner Helmet into a head torch: right-click the helmet and pick Fit Light Bulb, put a battery in the lamp, and tap F. It shines like a heavy-duty flashlight wherever you face, with both hands free. See Miner Helmet lamp.
#Fixes
- Transfer All no longer drops your tattoos and makeup on the floor.
- Belts, rigs, holsters and packs from ZA-Z's Gear no longer show holes or sink into the body when worn under a hoodie or a jacket.
- Lighter models: ZA-Z's guns, magazines, suppressors and boss zombies use lighter 3D models, so they load faster and take less memory.
- W900 drivers no longer write ten log lines a second to their game's console log.
- Halloween pumpkins rot and clear away by themselves once the event is over.
- Every Texture Optimized is gone from the mod list. If you need lighter textures, use the game's own options: Options > Display, then Texture Compression, Maximum Texture Size and Maximum Vehicle Texture Size.
- The old food mod has left. Every food, drink and kitchen item it put in the world is still there: ZA-Z's Pantry keeps them as plain game items that still eat, cook and pour (a red wine pours as wine). Nothing new of them turns up as loot. Pantry
- Unloading a car or bike from the W900 car trailer or the Mobile Base deck onto an indoor or crowded spot is refused now, and the vehicle stays on the trailer (it used to vanish).
