Vehicle repairs on ZA-Z: rubber strips from any tyre, and parts back from 0 percent

Checked | 4 min read

Two things that used to be dead ends now work. Any tyre on ZA-Z cuts into rubber strips, flat, shredded or brand new, on the ground or in your bag. And a car part that is down to 0 percent is no longer scrap: you can rebuild it, at a real cost, so the Porsche spoiler or the Huey door you cannot find a second of is not gone for good.

The parts of the modded cars and the Huey can now be repaired like the game's own cars, too.

#How do I get rubber strips?

Cut up a tyre. Right-click it (in your inventory or lying next to you) or find it in the crafting menu:

TyreRecipeTimeYou get
Any single tyre, car or motorbikeCut Tire Into Rubber Strips30 seconds3 rubber strips, 1 scrap metal
A double tyre (trucks, fire engines, the semi)Cut Double Tire Into Rubber Strips45 seconds6 rubber strips, 2 scrap metal
A 4-tyre axle (the semi, the fire engine, army trucks)Cut Tire Axle Into Rubber Strips1 minute12 rubber strips, 4 scrap metal

You need a crowbar to lever the tyre off the rim and a sharp knife to cut the tread. Both are kept (they wear a little). No skill needed, no table needed, and it gives a little Mechanics XP. The steel rim is the scrap metal.

The tyre can be in any state, a dead 0 percent one included. That is the point: the old ways to get strips refused a tyre that was shot or worn through.

#Can I repair a car part at 0 percent?

Yes. Right-click a broken part and pick Restore:

  • Loose in your inventory: right-click the part. You will see Restore with the part's name.
  • Still on the car: open the mechanics window and right-click the part. Hoods, trunk lids and trunks already repair on the car the normal way, even at 0 percent, so they show the usual Repair instead.

Restoring takes about 6 seconds and brings the part back to 25 percent of its full condition. From there, repair it the normal way to bring it further up. A restore counts as a repair, so every repair after it gives a little less, as it does for any part you patch up.

It costs more than a normal repair, so finding a good part still beats rebuilding a wreck:

PartOne restore takesSkill
Hood, trunk lid, spoiler, bumper, bullbar, side skirts, roof panel, armour plate2 sheet metal and 4 uses of a propane torch, or 4 small sheet metal and 4 torch uses, or 2 sheet metal and 16 screwsWelding 2 and Mechanics 3 (the screw way: Mechanics 3)
Door, trunk, gas tank2 sheet metal and 4 uses of a propane torch, or 4 small sheet metal and 4 torch usesWelding 4 and Mechanics 3
Seat, glove box4 uses of duct tape, or 4 uses of glueMechanics 2

That is twice what one normal repair of that part takes, and one level more in each skill. The materials have to be in your inventory or your bags. The tooltip lists what you have against what you need, and the option stays greyed out until you have it all.

#Which parts can be repaired now?

Every part the game can repair on its own cars can now be repaired on the modded ones as well: the KI5 cars (Range Rover, Challenger, '82 Porsche 911, Skyline GT-R, Hilux, Humvee, the M35 trucks, the Pierce Arrow fire engines, the KI5 trailers), the semi, the Autotsar motorbikes and the UH-1B Huey. That covers hoods, trunk lids, doors, trunks, gas tanks, seats and glove boxes, with the same materials and skills the game asks for its own cars.

Body pieces the game's cars do not have, like spoilers, bumpers, bullbars, side skirts and roof panels, repair the way a hood does.

#What still cannot be repaired?

Glass, tyres, brakes, suspension, mufflers, lights and batteries work as they always have: when one is gone, you find or build a new one. Roof racks, side steps, snorkels, tarps and cargo racks are the same. The engine keeps the game's own repair with engine parts, which already works from 0 percent.
