The Road Train: armour your W900 semi, ride the War Rig cistern, live out of the Mobile Base, haul cars without losing them

Checked | 8 min read

ZA-Z's Road Train is our add-on for the W900 Semi-Truck, on the server since 11 October 2026. Weld a War Plough onto the front and the semi shoves zombies, parked cars and burnt-out wrecks out of its way instead of stopping dead. Eleven more armour parts dress the truck and its cistern like a war rig, the cistern carries a crew of up to six behind hatches, the Mobile Base trailer is a camp on wheels, and the car trailer carries cars without eating their parts or their trunk loot.

Workshop page: ZA-Z's Road Train ships inside ZA-Z's Essentials on Steam. It downloads by itself when you join.

#What do I need to drive one?

A W900 semi tractor, found in the world like any other vehicle, and its keys. The trailers (box van, cistern, car trailer, container and low bed) are separate vehicles you hitch behind it. Everything on this page also needs fuel, a working battery for the lights, and a welder for the armour.

#How do I hitch a trailer to the semi?

From the driver's seat, not on foot. Reverse until the front of the trailer sits over the plate between the truck's rear wheels, stay seated, open the vehicle menu (V) and pick Attach trailer. Walking up to the hitch and pressing V shows nothing for these trucks; that is normal. Unhitch the same way.

#What does the War Plough do?

The War Plough is a V-shaped blade on the front bumper. With it fitted:

  • A horde no longer stops the truck. Hold the throttle and most of the speed a zombie takes off you comes straight back.
  • Parked cars get shoved aside instead of climbed. From a standstill the plough pushes what it is up against at a crawl, burnt-out wrecks included.
  • The plough takes the crashes. While it still works, crashes do not damage the truck, the trailers or anyone riding them; the plough wears down instead.

It goes on over the W900's own bullbar, so fit the bullbar first.

#The armour kit: every part and the skill it takes

You weld each part at any surface with a blowtorch and a welding mask (crafting menu, category ZA-Z Road Train), then fit it in the mechanics screen with a wrench, Mechanics 3 and the Intermediate Mechanics recipe. Nothing comes fitted on a truck you find.

Repairs: every kit part can be welded back up: a blowtorch plus a sheet of metal or two half steel rods per repair, with some Metalworking and Mechanics 2.

#The War Rig: riding in the cistern

Every W900 cistern is a crew trailer. Four crew hatches along its sides each open onto a seat (press E at a hatch), and with the Roof Turret Cab fitted two more seats open up top: the front turret and the tail turret. Zombies cannot reach you inside.

Since 19 October 2026 the cistern is bulletproof. Gunfire does no damage to the tank, its tyres, its windows or any part bolted to it, so a fuel or water load cannot be shot out, and fire does not touch it either. Crashes and zombies still dent it as before. For armour on ordinary cars, see Vehicle Armour.

#How do the crew shoot?

Each crew seat has a gun port out to its own side; the tail turret carries a mounted minigun fed from the cistern's ammo box (1,000 rounds of .308) that stays with the turret.

#Lights, siren and lockers

  • Floodlights: four lamps over the crew hatches light the ground beside the cistern. Anyone riding can switch them from the vehicle menu (V).
  • Roof Light Bar: a long-throw light on the truck's roof for night driving, switched from the driver's vehicle menu.
  • Siren: with the Roof Turret Cab fitted, the cistern carries a siren any rider can run from the vehicle menu. It calls every zombie within about 100 tiles, so use it on purpose.
  • Side lockers: two armoured lockers on the cistern's flanks hold 40 each. Press E beside one to open or close it.
  • Air conditioning runs off the trailer's own battery.

#The Mobile Base trailer

The Mobile Base is a rusted container on a drop-deck trailer that you hitch behind the semi like any other trailer. It carries a hidden crew, your stores, a generator for your camp and a car on its back. It is new with this update and does not turn up in the world on its own yet.

#Riding and shooting

  • Crew seats: four gunners sit inside the container, two to a side. Climb in at the caged CREW porch on either side. Zombies cannot reach you inside, and you shoot out of the gun ports on your own side.
  • Tail gunner: the armoured box behind the ramps holds a minigun that swings 200 degrees across the back. It feeds from the trailer's ammo box (.308, loose, in boxes or in cartons), which any rider can reach. The gun pulls in while the ramps are down.

#The container room

The crew container opens into a room you can live in. Park, stand at either caged CREW porch, right-click and pick Enter the Container. Inside is a bare, thrown-together box of scrap steel and planks: kit it out however you like with furniture, storage and anything you can build. Every Mobile Base has its own room, and whatever you leave in it stays there.

  • Where they come from: Mobile Base trailers are rare: there are only five on the server, and they are placed by the admins, never found by chance.
  • Claiming: a Mobile Base is yours once you claim it, like a safehouse. Stand at a CREW porch, right-click and pick Claim this Mobile Base. You can hold one at a time. Until it is claimed, nobody goes in.
  • Your crew: right-click a porch, Members, then Add member... and type their username. Only you and your members can go in or hitch the trailer to a truck.
  • Keep it lived in: if nobody from the claim goes in or rides along for 14 real days, the claim lapses and anyone can claim it, room and all.
  • Giving it up: if you give up your claim, or claim another Mobile Base instead, the old one stays exactly as it is, room and everything in it, and anyone can claim it, like a released safehouse. The room is only gone if the trailer itself is destroyed: scrap it and its room and everything in it go with it.
  • Leaving: right-click anywhere inside and pick Leave the Container. You step out beside the porch you came in by, wherever the trailer is now.
  • Gun ports: there are four, two on each long wall; the two on the north wall carry a GUN PORT plate, and the two on the south wall sit opposite them. Stand at one and pick Man the Port to take that gunner's seat outside. From a port seat, open the vehicle menu (V) and pick Back Inside.
  • Power: the room has a light, and it works while the trailer's generator is running.
  • The trailer has to stand still to go in. Leaving works any time.

#Storage

  • Cargo hold: 500 units, behind the roll-up doors on both sides. Stand at either door to reach it.
  • Crew lockers and mini fridge: four lockers (50 each) and a fridge, reached from any crew seat or standing at a porch. The fridge only keeps food cold while the trailer's generator runs.
  • Fuel cage: the left door of the cage on the gooseneck opens a 60-unit store. The rack in it fills with cans as you stock it.

#The generator

The cage on the gooseneck holds a generator. Park, stand at the cage's right door, right-click and pick Start Generator: it is set up under the trailer and powers everything nearby exactly like a generator you placed yourself. Fuel it, switch it on and off and check it the usual way. When you drive off it switches itself off and packs away, fuel and wear kept. Pack Up Generator does the same by hand. If someone takes the generator, fit another one at the cage door (Fit Generator, with a generator in your inventory).

#Ramps and the car deck

Behind the trailer, right-click and pick Lower Ramps (the trailer must stand still); the gunner box swings down with them. With the ramps down, park a car a few metres behind the trailer and load it from the trailer's vehicle menu (V), the same way as on the car trailer. It rides under a tarp on the rear deck, one car at a time, keeping everything on it. Trucks and long vans do not fit.

#Lights and siren

Four spotlights on the roof and a light bar on the gunner box run on the floodlights switch in the vehicle menu (V) and draw on the trailer's own battery, which sits in the cage. The siren on the roof works like the cistern's.

#The Camper

A step van turned motorhome (an RV) with a room in the back you can live in, claimed like a safehouse. Only 30 exist, mostly in trailer parks, in four paint jobs with an interior to match. Where to find one, claiming, getting in and power: the Camper (RV).

#The car hauler keeps everything

The W900 car trailer carries cars in its slots. On ZA-Z a loaded car keeps every part, every item in its trunk and seats, its fuel, its key and its paint: what goes on comes off exactly as it went on. Load and unload from the trailer's own menu, last car on is the first car off.
