The Rosewood safe zone: a quarantined, zombie-free town with no PvP

Checked | 2 min read

Rosewood is ZA-Z's quarantined safe zone. Since 30 September 2026 nobody can hurt another player inside the town, zombies that get in are cleared out, and a quarantine fence is going up all the way round it, with watchtower checkpoints on the main roads. It is the one place in Knox County where you can walk the streets without a weapon in your hand, and it will stay that way: Rosewood is Knox County's protected, zombie-free gem.

#Is PvP on in Rosewood?

No. The whole town is a non-PvP zone: inside it, no player can hurt another, whatever either of you has set on the PvP toggle. Everywhere else on ZA-Z the normal rules still apply (PvP on, with the safety toggle; see PvP and safety).

#Are there zombies in Rosewood?

No. Zombie respawn is off across the whole server, so nothing regrows inside the fence, and zombies that do get in (through a checkpoint, or trailing a highway horde) are cleared out by the server. They simply vanish; there is no body to clean up.

That makes Rosewood the safest place in Knox County to:

  • sort loot, repair gear and cook without watching the windows
  • recover from a bite, rest up while your immune system fights, or sleep off the pain of a Knox Antidote
  • meet other survivors, trade and plan a run
  • get inked at the tattoo parlour, which sits inside the zone

#How do I get in?

Through one of the six checkpoints on the main roads into town. Each is an open gap in the fence with concrete barriers down the centre line and a watchtower on either side, lit at night, so you can walk or drive straight through. There is one gate, on a side road, and it is locked and barricaded for good. The fence marks the town's edge: once you are through a checkpoint you are inside the zone, and the moment you leave, the rest of Knox County is as hungry as ever.

#What still works as normal?

  • Safehouses. Claimed buildings in Rosewood keep their own protection: no trespass, no looting and no fire damage for anyone outside the group. See Safehouses.
  • Loot. Containers, loot respawn and the rare finds work as they do everywhere else.
  • Power and water. The grid is on and the taps run on the usual schedule; see Power and Water.

The safe zone keeps you safe from zombies and from other players' weapons. It does not protect you from hunger, falls, fire or your own driving.

#Why Rosewood?

Rosewood is small, walkable, close to the highways and full of the places a survivor needs, and it has been at the heart of ZA-Z since the first week. Fencing it off and keeping it clean gives every survivor, new or old, somewhere to breathe. New to the server? Read Getting started, then head for Rosewood.
