ZA-Z's death zones, where PvP is always on: Louisville and Rosewood prison

Checked | 2 min read

ZA-Z has two death zones: the city of Louisville and the grounds of Rosewood prison. Inside either one, PvP is on for everyone, all the time. Your safety toggle does nothing in there: if you build inside the Louisville wall, go looting in the city or climb into the prison yard, anyone you meet can shoot you, and you can shoot them. Every man or woman for themselves.

#Where are the death zones?

  • Louisville: everything inside the military wall round the city, the Knox Boundary Camp on the road in, and the river along the north of the city.
  • Rosewood prison: the prison west of Rosewood town, from its perimeter wall in: the yards, the cell blocks, the admin wing and the lot on its east side. The town of Rosewood itself is not part of it.

Everywhere else on ZA-Z the normal rules apply: PvP on, with the safety toggle (see PvP and safety). Rosewood is the opposite, a safe zone where nobody can hurt anyone.

#How do I know I am in it?

When you cross into Louisville, DEATH ZONE: PvP forced shows over your character's head (at the prison it reads PRISON: PvP forced), and the safety button on the left of the screen turns into a red skull and crossbones. When you leave, the skull goes and Left the death zone shows instead.

It does not matter how you get in. Walking through the checkpoint, driving, flying in or coming up the river by boat all count the same: where you are standing (or sitting) is what counts.

#Can I turn PvP off inside?

No. The safety button and the safety key do nothing inside a death zone. If you try, No safety past the checkpoint shows over your head.

#What happens when I leave?

Your safety goes back to how it was when you went in. If you went in with safety on, it comes back on a couple of seconds after you cross out (the button shows the usual countdown). If you already had PvP on when you went in, it stays on.

#What still protects me?

  • Your faction. Faction mates still cannot shoot each other, and only hit each other in melee if one of you turns on faction PvP. That is the normal rule and it holds in the death zone too.
  • Safehouses. A claimed safehouse inside the death zone still keeps strangers out: no trespass, no looting and no fire damage. PvP is on in its yard, though, so do not stand at the window. See Safehouses.
