ZA-Z update, 20 September 2026: beds work, the night skips, and the mods vote opens

Released | 1 min read

Beds started earning their keep on ZA-Z on 20 September 2026, around Day 79. Your survivor still never gets tired, but when every survivor online is asleep at the same moment, the night now flies past. The same evening the mods vote opened on the website, and the days around it brought a 30-day loot respawn, longer-lasting bulbs, a zombie layer on the live map, more mains water and safehouses that last twice as long.

#Sleep skips the night

Sleep is allowed but never needed. If every player online goes to sleep at once, time runs about 240 times faster: 8 in-game hours pass in roughly 15 real seconds. Players who were online when it switched on had to relog before the Sleep option showed. See Server settings.

#The mods vote opens

A shortlist of Workshop mods (vehicles, guns, gear and quality-of-life fixes) went up at zazomboid.com/mods for signed-in players to vote on. The vote was due to close on 1 October; the mods went live early, on 26 September.

#The rest of the week

  • 19 September: loot respawn returns as a server-wide wave every 30 in-game days (90 real hours). The rules are on the loot page.
  • 19 September: light bulbs last longer, and the server is patched against the stuck "Server saving game. Please wait." message (Troubleshooting).
  • 20 September: admins show in the in-game player list. In Muldraugh a survivor drinks a Knox Antidote and becomes the first recorded cure.
  • 21 September: a zombie density layer goes up on the live map.
  • 23 September: mains water is extended from Day 100 to Day 150 (5 December 1993), from the next restart. See Power and Water.
  • 24 September: safehouses last 14 real days without a visit, up from 7. See Safehouses.
  • 25 September: Rebel News, the server's newspaper, prints its first issue.
