ZA-Z update, 23 August 2026: the South African Project Zomboid B42 server opens

Released | 1 min read

ZA-Z opened to the public on 23 August 2026. A Project Zomboid Build 42 server hosted in Johannesburg, it went up with no password and no whitelist, and its world started on Day 1: 9 July 1993, the first morning of the Knox Event. Every day since is counted in the server's name.

#How did the server start?

  • Open to all: listed in the in-game server browser, no password, up to 100 players.
  • Safehouses: claim a building and nobody outside your group can walk in, loot it or burn it, and you can respawn there.
  • Deaths are announced in chat, and the world saves every 15 minutes.
  • Loot raised from the game's scarce Apocalypse setting to Normal, with guns a notch richer.
  • Zombies with random toughness, multi-hit melee and a low zombie respawn; loot respawn on.
  • Comforts: the minimap on, the map readable in the dark, easy climbing, corpses cleared after 72 in-game hours, and skill books read 5 times faster.
