ZA-Z update, 28 September 2026: Build 42.21 lands and the Gold Desert Eagle arrives
On 28 September 2026, around Day 101, ZA-Z moved to Project Zomboid Build 42.21. Every Workshop mod downloaded again, and joins failed for about an hour until the last of the old build was cleared out. Earlier that day ZA-Z's Gear and Clothing gained its first weapon, the Gold Desert Eagle, and two shoulder holsters that carry 30 magazines; the Micro Torch followed with the midnight restart.
#Build 42.21 lands
At 19:05 SAST the server updated to Build 42.21. A game update clears the server's copy of the Workshop mods, so all of them downloaded again and the first start took about six minutes. Then players were refused with a file mismatch: three files the new build had dropped were still on the server. Once they were removed, at about 20:17, joins worked again. If a patch ever locks you out, read the file mismatch fix.
From that evening the server also watches for new game builds and Workshop updates by itself: a mod update brings an automatic restart with warnings 10, 5 and 1 minute ahead (Server settings).
#The Gold Desert Eagle and the 30-magazine holsters (Gear 1.1)
With the 04:31 restart, Gear 1.1 added:
- Gold Desert Eagle: a solid gold .44 on the ordinary B-F Magazine, reaching 60 tiles, through up to 3 zombies per shot, and it never jams. Since 30 September every zombie it hits stays down.
- Quartermaster Shoulder Holster: 30 pistol or rifle magazines, weightless while worn.
- Twin Shoulder Holster: the same, with a pistol under each arm.
They were admin-issued at first and have been world loot since 30 September.
#The Micro Torch (Gear 1.2, 29 September)
The midnight restart brought Gear 1.2 and the Micro Torch, a pocket torch head that clips on and lights the way hands-free. The Twin holster's hotbar slots became Shoulder Holster Left and Shoulder Holster Right.
#Worth knowing
In the early hours the server froze during a Huey flight over never-visited ground and came back at its last save, so over new ground, fly below top speed (Vehicles and driving). A count of the save that evening found 59,122 zombies on the map, up from 33,803 a week earlier.
