"ZA-Z update, 26 October 2026: rev your engine and do burnouts, headlights in your underglow colour, and the old food mod's magazines teach again"

Released | 2 min read

A ZA-Z update lands with the restart of 26 October 2026. Close Steam completely and open it again before you join, so it fetches the new version. You can now rev your engine and do burnouts and donuts, the Underglow Kit can colour your headlights to match, and the old food mod's recipe magazines teach the game's own recipes again.

#Rev it and do a burnout

Stop the car, keep the engine running, and hold W and S together: the engine roars, the tyres scream and the car edges forward at a crawl. Hold A or D as well and it swings round into a donut. Let go of S and you drive off as normal. See how to do a burnout.

  • Rev on the spot. Parked, hold the brake key (Space) and W. Let go of Space but keep W down and the car launches off the brake.
  • Everyone hears it. Players hear the revs and the screech from about 60 tiles away, and so do the zombies. Revving also burns more fuel.
  • When it works. Below 3 km/h with the engine on; a burnout keeps going up to 15 km/h. Not in helicopters, boats, jet skis or a car being towed. Towing a trailer, in the W900 or on a motorbike you get the sound but no spin.
  • Turn it off for your own driving in Options > Mods > ZA-Z's Essentials > Rev and burnout. You still hear other drivers.

#Headlights in your underglow colour

The Underglow wheel on the vehicle menu (V) has a new Headlights: White / Match choice. On Match, the two front headlights shine in the underglow's colour, steady, even with the underglow itself switched off. The rear lights stay red, and everyone nearby sees the colour. Pick it again to go back to white. See underglow.

Options > Mods > ZA-Z's Essentials > Underglow now also shows every headlight in its normal white, on your screen only.

#The old recipe magazines teach again

The recipe magazines from the old food mod used to teach nothing and never ticked as read. Pick one up now and, within half a minute, it turns into the matching normal recipe magazine: the baking ones into Good Cooking or Grandma's Kitchen, the bread ones into Good Cooking, the dairy ones into Italian Delights, and so on. It teaches the game's own recipes and ticks as read like any other. The old mod's named cookbooks still teach nothing. See which magazine each one becomes.
